KOCHI: The Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Milma) on Wednesday submitted an affidavit before the Kerala High Court stating that the average requirement of milk in Kerala is approximately 11.96 lakh litres per day, and out of this 4.93 lakh litres were purchased from outside the state. Milma filed the affidavit on an appeal filed by Martin Paiva of Kochi who challenged the recent single bench order which upheld Milma’s decision to hike the milk price by Rs 5 a litre. “Milma has been purchasing milk from Tamilnadu, Karanataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. There will be an additional expenditure of transportation. Purchase of milk outside of the state is resorted to ensure that the consumers of the state get milk as per their requirement, incurring loss to the federation,” pointed out in the affidavit.
