With the heat wave surging, here are 10 tips to help you cope with the heat, whether you are outdoors or indoors.
New Delhi: A hot weather can be a little more than uncomfortable to bear. Being outdoors and constantly exposed to heat could result in ailments like rashes, cramps, fatigue and heat strokes.
Here are a few tips that can help you cope with the heat irrespective of whether you are outdoors or indoors:
- Keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water -- at least eight to 10 glasses a day. Water is the best replenisher.
- Stay away from alcohol and beverages. Beverages containing caffeine -- including colas, iced tea and coffee -- can be dehydrating.
- Wear light-coloured and loosely-woven cotton clothing. Light colours reflect the sun and natural fabric allows air circulation.
- Make it mandatory on your part to apply sunscreen lotion before you step out on the sun. You could also wear a wide-brimmed hat.
- Avoid eating large meals. Large meals can only make you feel uncomfortable. It's better to opt for small meals instead.
- Adjust your day's schedule keeping in mind the heat wave. You could do the most strenuous tasks in the morning when climates are cooler. That way, you will not get exhausted by the end of the day.
- When you are outdoors, make sure that you take frequent breaks by staying away from the sun and moving to cool areas.
- If you are under medication, ask your doctor if the medicines have adverse reactions to heat.
- Consider investing on a dehumidifier to eliminate some of the humidity in the air of your home. If you simply cannot sleep, then at least lie down and rest as often as you can.
- If you exercise, make sure you do it the morning. You could also exercise late in the day.
