Kerala: At least 10 people were injured in an explosion in Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) in Kerala's Ernakulam district nearby Kalamassery Industrial Area on Wednesday.
All injured persons were rushed to nearby hospital and the condition of three workers is stated to be critical.
Police said the accident occurred when the tyres of a tanker lorry, which brought carbon disulfide to HIL caught fire and exploded as the gas was being transferred to the facility set up in the factory,
Soon after the incident the local police along with Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot for rescue operation.
The area has been cordoned off and officials from the state forensic department were asked to collect samples to ascertain the exact cause of blast.
Ernakulam District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla said the situation is under control.
HIL is a government's enterprise under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. It was incorporated in March 1954 in order to start production of DDT for the National Malaria Eradication Programme.
