BANGALORE: After achieving their target of planting about 57 lakh saplings across the state in 2010, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has set a target to plant about one crore new saplings across major industrial areas, roads and its peripheries this year. This forms a major part of our initiative to mark the World Environment Day 2011, announced A S Sadashiviah, chairman, KSPCB.
Speaking to the media on Friday, he said, "We have tied up with the State Forest Department for the supply of saplings and Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). This year we are planting sandalwood and teak saplings."He further said, "With the success of environmental awareness education programme among students taken up in Shimoga during 2010, this year, similar programme will be initiated across all other districts with the involvement of more NGOs."
