Police arrested six persons in connection with the gangrape of an 18-year-old woman in Nizamabad on Thursday. Three people sexually assaulted her at a hospital, where renovation work is underway, when she was in an inebriated state. Based on the woman’s statement, a case was registered under relevant IPC sections, SC/ST Act and Nirbhaya Act, and the accused were produced before a court.
The woman is a second-year student enrolled in an undergraduate degree at a private college. Nizamabad police commissioner Kartikeya said police arrested five persons on Wednesday, and another on Thursday. “The prime accused is the boyfriend of the girl and took her to the private hospital building under construction near a bus stand. Later, two friends of Naveen joined him and committed the crime. Three others helped them,” the police commissioner said.
The woman was found in an unconscious condition early on Wednesday and was moved to the hospital for treatment. “Dial 100 got a call after 1 am last night from an unknown person. Police rushed to the spot and the girl was found there,” Kartikeya said.
During inquiry, the woman said she had gone to meet her boyfriend in Nizamabad on September 28 and both decided to go have food and alcohol. Three of his friends also joined them. Later, the four accused took her to the hospital, where two more men joined them. Police said the accused took advantage of the woman’s inebriated condition, and three of them sexually assaulted her.
