Telangana Handloom Artist Gets Appreciation From New Zealand PM Chris Hipkins

In Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district, an artist has made India proud. So much so, that New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins appreciated the handloom artist. Reports suggest New Zealand NRIs presented a shawl, made by Veldhi Hariprasad — the chief weaver of Rajanna Siricilla district — to Chris Hipkins. The PM felicitated Neeta Vijay — founder of Brand Telangana — with the Pride of Telangana award. This award is given to inspire people for their exemplary work in promoting artists. Along with this, Bhav Dhillon, who is a well-known community leader and an established business leader of repute, and other dignitaries were felicitated. Founders of the brand Telangana felicitated the PM with the shawl, designed by Neeta Vijay and intricately woven by Hariprasad, to reflect Telangana’s rich artistic heritage.

On this occasion, Hariprasad spoke to News18. He said the shawl for Chris Hipkins was woven with silver and gold. It is two and a half metres long and 48 inches wide, with silver and gold lace and silk thread. He worked hard for a week to weave the shawl on the handloom. He said that he feels lucky to have been part of this project. However, Sircilla handloom artisans also congratulated Hariprasad for this. Along with this, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also invited Hariprasad to Raj Bhavan.

Veldhi Hariprasad has been in the headlines earlier as well. Last year, in November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 95th episode of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat also hailed Hariparsad for his self-woven logo for the ongoing G20 Summit. “A weaver from Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana Veldhi Hariprasad garu has sent me a self-woven logo of G20. I was surprised to see this amazing gift. He has such mastery over his skills that it attracts everyone,” he said. PM Modi also mentioned that Hariprasad has sent him a letter, which reads that hosting the G20 Summit is a matter of immense pride for India. To celebrate this achievement, Hariprasad had made this logo. He inherited this talent from his father.
