Chiranjeevi-starrer Bhola Shankar is set to debut on Netflix on 15 September. Directed by Meher Ramesh, this film is a remake of the 2015 Tamil hit Vedhalam, in which Ajith starred as the lead character.
Before Bhola Shankar, Meher Ramesh directed films such as Billa, Shakti, Kantri, and the Kannada film Veera Kannadiga. Regrettably, Bhola Shankar faced significant challenges at the box office and received unfavourable reviews from critics and audiences alike.
But, it’s worth noting that Chiranjeevi’s performance in the film has been widely applauded, especially for his exceptional comedic timing and acting prowess.
Bhola Shankar’s box office performance left many of Chiranjeevi’s fans feeling disappointed. They were not thrilled about the veteran actor appearing in yet another standard remake of a previously successful film. The upcoming OTT release of Bhola Shankar will be closely watched to see if it manages to secure more positive reviews this time around.
The Telugu state rights for Bhola Shankar were estimated at approximately Rs 76 crore. Unfortunately, the film performed abysmally, failing to generate any revenue through shares in each territory. By August 15, the film had managed to accumulate less than Rs 20 crore solely from the Telugu states. This resulted in a staggering loss of around Rs 60 crore for the producers, including production and promotion costs.
Set against the backdrop of Kolkata, Bhola Shankar centres around the bond between a brother and sister. The film is produced by Anil Sunkara under the label of AK Entertainment. With music composed by Mahati Swara Sagar, the cinematography of the film is handled by Dudley.
Apart from the lead actors Keerthy Suresh, Sushanth, and Tamannah, the adaptation includes a notable supporting cast comprising Venu Yeldandi, Hyper Aadi, Sreemukhi, Tarun Arora, Murali Sharma, Bithiri Sathi, Ravi Shankar, Raghu Babu, Get Up Srinu, Rashmi Gautam, Vennela Kishore, Thulasi, and Uttej.
Chiranjeevi is best known for films including Indra, Shankar Dada MBBS, Tagore, and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. His other notable releases include Waltair Veerayya, Godfather, Acharya, The Ghazi Attack, Khaidi No. 150, Bruce Lee- The Fighter, and Stalin. The actor has a few films in the pipeline including The Journalist, Chiru 157, an untitled film with Krishna Kurasala, and an untitled project with Anil Ravipudi.
