Want to Achieve Hailey Bieber’s Glazed Donut Nails? Here’s What to Ask For!
You might have seen (and obsessed over) Hailey Bieber’s viral glazed donut nails on TikTok, but did you know you can recreate her manicure using the exact same products her nail tech uses? In this article, we’ll walk you through how to achieve Hailey’s pearlescent chrome nails, whether you’re sitting at the salon or chilling at home. We’ll also teach you how to recreate her manicure using regular nail polish so you don’t have to go out and buy any extra gel supplies!
Things You Should Know

Asking for Hailey Bieber's Nails at the Salon

Ask for a pearlescent chrome gel manicure, or show your nail tech a photo. With the popularity of Hailey Bieber’s chrome manicure, your local salon probably knows what nails you’re requesting if you just mention the “glazed donut” look. If not, pull up some photos of Hailey’s nails online, and ask your nail technician for a pearlescent chrome gel manicure: choose any milky base color, topped with chrome powder for an iridescent finish. Find reference photos online by searching “glazed donut nails” or “Hailey Bieber chrome nails.”

Request an almond nail shape. To recreate the viral manicure, ask your nail technician to file your nails into a narrow almond shape. Wider at the base and slender on the sides, this shape is super flattering for all fingers, especially when paired with a high-shine polish. If your natural nails are shorter, the almond shape might not be possible. Request clear gel X extension tips to achieve the same look, or work with your nail tech to find a tapered shape that suits your natural nails.

Choose a sheer, milky base color. For Hailey’s exact nail polish color, apply 1-2 coats of OPI’s Funny Bunny GelColor, or get creative and choose any color you like! Just ask your nail tech to sheer out the base color with a clear gel top coat: For chocolate glazed donut nails: mix DND gel polishes in Coffee Bean and Spiced Brown with a clear gel top coat. For lemon glazed donut nails: mix Presto Color Gel #086 (or any bright neon yellow) with a clear gel top coat. For cherry glazed donut nails: mix OPI’s Infinite Shine in Big Apple Red (or any bright red polish) with a clear gel top coat. For grape glazed donut nails: mix OPI’s Infinite Shine in Do You Lilac It? (or any light purple polish) with a clear gel top coat. For passion fruit glazed donut nails: mix OPI’s Don’t Tell a Sol nail polish and OPI’s Infinite Shine in Blinded by the Ring Light (or any pale yellow polishes) with a clear gel top coat.

Finish the nails with a pearlescent chrome powder. To get the iconic glazed sheen on your nails, ask your nail technician to rub OPI’s Tin Man Can Chrome Effects Mirror-Shine nail powder over your manicure. If your salon doesn’t have this product, use any silver-y white chrome powder that doesn’t have a duo-chrome or color shift effect. As a final step, your nail tech will apply a thin layer of clear top coat to seal in the shine and finish your manicure.

Recreating Her Manicure at Home (Gel)

File and shape your nails into an almond shape. To achieve Hailey Bieber’s chrome nails at home, use a soft-grit emery file to slim down the sides of your nails into a tapered shape. Start filing the outer edges of your nail before working your way toward the center, and file in smooth, single strokes along the grain of your nail to prevent breakage. Alternate strokes between each side of the nail to ensure it’s symmetrical. For instance, file 10 strokes on the left side of your nail, then 10 strokes on the right side. After you file one nail into the right shape, use it as a model for the rest of your nails. View your nails from various angles as you work to make sure they look as similar as possible. If your nails are too short to file into an almond shape, purchase an almond nail tip kit online and apply the tips with a thin layer of adhesive gel included in the kit.

Prep your nails and apply a coat of gel base. Before applying your polish, gently push back your cuticles with a cuticle pusher, and remove any dirt and oil from the surface of your nails with a cotton round soaked in acetone. Once your nails are dry, apply a thin layer of gel base coat. Then, wipe off any base coat on your surrounding skin and cure each nail for 30 seconds under a LED lamp.

Apply an even coat of milky white gel polish on your nails. Before applying your polish, roll the bottle between your hands to blend the color and get rid of air bubbles, and wipe off the sides of the brush to remove any excess product. Brush a thin layer of milky white gel polish onto each nail (like OPI’s Funny Bunny GelColor), or use any shade to create your own custom look. Then, cure your nails for 60 seconds until they’re dry. For chocolate glazed donut nails: mix DND gel polishes in Coffee Bean and Spiced Brown with a clear gel top coat.

Seal the color with a gel top coat. To make your gel polish last longer, apply a thin layer of clear gel top coat over each nail. Cure your nails for 60 seconds, then wipe your nails with a cotton round soaked in isopropyl alcohol to remove the tacky residue on your nails. If you don’t have isopropyl alcohol, use a non-acetone nail polish remover to get rid of any stickiness after curing.

Cover your nails with chrome powder. To achieve the pearlescent chrome effect, use a disposable eyeshadow applicator to add chrome powder over your manicure. Start with a small amount of powder, and gently buff the product into your nails using small circular motions. Keep rubbing until your nail is shiny and reflective, then brush off any excess powder with a fluffy nail duster brush. Leaving excess chrome powder creates a sparkly effect, instead of a mirror-like finish. If you want a glittery finish, skip brushing off the extra product at the end. Hailey uses OPI’s Tin Man Can Chrome Effects Mirror-Shine nail powder, which is only available for salon purchase. To recreate her look, use any silver or white chrome powder that doesn’t have the duo-chrome or color shift effect.

Seal your manicure with a gel top coat and moisturize your hands. After you cover your nails with chrome powder, apply a thin layer of clear gel top coat to protect your nails, then cure your manicure for 60 seconds under a UV or LED light. Massage a few drops of cuticle oil into the sides of your nails to prolong the life of your manicure, especially before you go to sleep. To care for your nails, use a nourishing hand cream to keep your nails and hands hydrated, and avoid submerging your nails in water for extended periods of time.

Recreating Her Manicure at Home (Regular Polish)

Top a pearl nail polish with an iridescent top coat. After applying a thin, even layer of pearl polish onto each of your nails, wait for your nails to dry completely before adding an iridescent top coat. Apply one coat for a subtle sheen, or several layers for a super shimmery finish.

Or, mix a milky shimmer nail polish with a top coat. To recreate the “glazed donut” look with regular nail polish, add a few drops of pearl nail polish and clear top coat onto a nail palette, and blend them together with a nail art brush. Apply 1-2 thin layers of polish onto each nail for a sheer, jelly-like manicure reminiscent of Hailey Bieber’s.

Alternatively, opt for “glazed donut” press-on nails. If you don’t feel like painting your nails (or your nails are super short), purchase glazed donut press-on nails inspired by Hailey Bieber herself. All you have to do is place each premade nail over your natural nail to ensure the proper fit and size, then apply a small dot of nail glue to secure them in place!
