Contouring Your Face
Apply a thin layer of primer to your skin. If you want your makeup to look flawless, use a long-lasting makeup primer under your concealer. Not only will this help make your pores look smaller, but it will make your makeup last longer without flaking or smearing. You can find primer wherever beauty products are sold.
Use a clean beauty blender to apply foundation over your entire face. Dispense a little foundation onto a clean, wet beauty blender, then dab it onto the center of your face. Continue blotting to blend the foundation outward. If you need to, add a little more foundation and keep blotting until it’s completely blended. Typically, Kylie uses a matte concealer for the most coverage. If you don’t have a beauty blender, use your fingers or a foundation brush instead.
Brush dark concealer or bronzer under your cheekbones to define them. The Kardashian-Jenners helped bring contouring into pop culture, so it’s no surprise that this is a part of Kylie’s signature makeup look. Swipe a medium-length brush into the bronzer, then apply it to your cheeks in a sweeping, circular motion. For a more dramatic contour, swipe the bronzer under your cheekbones and jawline, temples, hairline, and on either side of your nose. To pick the right color bronzer, look for a color that’s about 2 to 5 shades darker than your skin tone. Use a large, fluffy brush to dust the powder across your face, especially around your forehead and cheeks, or anywhere your skin tends to get oily throughout the day. Be sure to blend in the transparent powder well, or you could end up with a white-looking flashback in any photos you take.
Sweep blush on the apples of your cheeks and along your cheekbones. To soften your contour, swirl your blush brush on the fullest parts of your cheeks. Then, sweep the brush up your cheekbones, stopping just before you reach your temples. Typically, Kylie opts for a natural-looking blush that’s close to her skin tone.
Doing Your Eyes Like Kylie
Swipe on a thin layer of eyelid primer. For a dramatic eye that lasts all day, eyelid primer is essential. It gives the shadow something to adhere to, and it creates a barrier that can help prevent the shadow from creasing. Just apply a thin layer on both of your eyelids, stopping just above the crease.
Use a fluffy brush to apply a medium brown eyeshadow on your lid. Kylie’s signature look involves a smoky eye, and it’s surprisingly easy to accomplish yourself. Pick up a little shadow with your brush, then apply it all over your lid, up to the crease. Use the brush to blend the shadow so there aren’t any harsh edges where the color stops. If you have very fair skin, opt for a shadow the color of coffee with cream. If your skin is darker, you might go with toffee instead.
Apply a darker color along your lash line and wing it out slightly. Use a smaller brush to apply a color that’s 2-3 shades darker than the first color. Concentrate the darker color along your lash line, and don’t take it all the way up to the crease. Sweep your brush outward toward the corner of your eyebrow to get a subtle wing. You can also apply a little of the darker color under lower lashes if you like.
Swipe on volumizing mascara. Long, lushes lashes are a Kylie signature, so definitely don’t skip this step. Wipe the end of the mascara wand on the side of the tube to remove any excess, then hold the wand to the base of your lashes. Wiggle the mascara brush a little, then sweep the wand up and out toward the end of your lashes. Repeat if you want a second coat. For even more length, curl your lashes first! You can even wear false lashes if you want!
Fill in your brows with a pencil. Kylie is known for having sleek, perfect brows. Choose a pencil that’s about the same color as your brows, then use that to define their outline. Finish by filling in any thin or bare spots with the same pencil.
Getting Plump Lips
Outline your lips with a neutral-colored liner. Kylie is known for her love of lip liner. While it might take a little practice, if you want to look like Kylie, you’ll have to master her contoured pout. To start, apply a lip liner that’s close to the natural shade of your lips.
Use a darker liner in the center of your lips to make them look bigger. If you already have plump lips, you can skip this step. If you’re worried your lips will look too thin, though, outline use a darker liner on your cupids bow and the outer corners of your lips, then draw vertical lines in the center and just inside the outer corners of your bottom lip with that darker color. You can also line slightly outside of the center of your lips on the top and bottom, then follow the shape of your lips on the sides. Tips: For even fuller lips, use a lipstick or gloss with lip-plumping ingredients like capsaicin or menthol. You can also buy a lip-enhancing tool to plump your lips using suction.
Top with a matte lipstick in a neutral or bold color. While Kylie is most well-known for her neutral matte lips, she’s not afraid of a little color, either. If you’re heading to a hot nightclub, consider opting for a bold pink or red shade, while the neutrals might be more appropriate for the office.
Dab highlighter on your cupid's bow to finish your look. Make the most of your matte look by adding a little shimmery highlighter right on the curve in the center of your top lip.
