How to Drink Pimm's
Pimm’s No. 1 is a fruity British gin used as a base for a variety of mixed drinks. Most commonly, Pimm’s is mixed with lemonade to create a refreshing summer beverage, which is typically garnished with cucumber slices, mint, orange slices, and a few chopped strawberries. If you’re looking for a more creative spin on this fruity gin, try making a variety of cocktails with other alcohols and fruit juices added to the mix. Try playing around with different ingredients until you mix together your new favorite drink!
Ingredients

Creating a Traditional Pimm’s Cocktail

Fill a highball glass halfway with ice. Take a tall, narrow glass and fill it part-way with medium-sized circular or square ice cubes. Avoid using a rock of ice or large cubes, as you want there to be enough room in the glass for the drink itself. Like the name suggests, highball glasses have a thick rim of along the bottom.

Add in a sprig of mint and 2-3 cucumber slices. Place your garnishes in the drink ahead of time so they can soak into the alcohol for longer. Rest the cucumbers and mint on top of the ice cubes. Once you add in the Pimm’s, you can watch as the garnishes float or bob close to the drink’s surface. Make sure that the cucumbers are cut into thin slices. Try cutting each slice in half so that it can fit into the highball glass more easily. You can also add chopped strawberries and a slice or 2 of orange.

Pour in 50 millilitres (1.7 fl oz) of Pimm’s No. 1 liquor. Add a small amount of Pimm’s into the glass, letting it fill up the bottom portion of the highball glass. Be sure to add in the liquor before any other liquid ingredients, so the alcohol can better combine with the mixer. Don’t overdo it with the Pimm’s! Ideally, aim for your drink to be 3:1 ratio of mixer to alcohol.

Add in 150 millilitres (5.1 fl oz) of lemonade. Fill up the rest of the glass with a larger amount of lemonade. Watch as the Pimm’s begins to combine with the fruity drink, creating a golden-brown hue. At this point, make sure that all garnishes are in the upper half of the glass. Try not to overflow the glass when you pour the lemonade in.

Stir the ingredients together until they’re thoroughly mixed. Take a long spoon and begin mixing the lemonade and alcohol together. Keep stirring the drink for several seconds, or until you can no longer see 2 different layers of beverage. To make sure you’ve stirred the drink thoroughly, try taste-testing the mixed beverage. If there’s room in your glass, add more Pimm’s or lemonade to your glass if you’d prefer the drink to be stronger or weaker, respectively. While there’s no law against drinking Pimm’s straight, it tastes a lot better when mixed with other fruit juices.

Making Other Mixed Drinks

Mix Pimm’s, Irish whiskey, scotch, and lime juice together for a zesty drink. Add 0.75 fluid ounces (22 mL) of Irish whiskey, 0.75 fluid ounces (22 mL) of Scotch, 0.75 fluid ounces (22 mL) of lime juice, and 0.5 fluid ounces (15 mL) of Pimm’s No. 1 into a cocktail mixer. Add in 0.5 fluid ounces (15 mL) of agave syrup and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters into the mixture. Shake all the ingredients over ice in a cocktail mixer before straining them twice. Whenever you serve this drink, use a coupe glass. Unlike highball glasses, coupe glasses have a thick, sturdy stem and a smaller cup section. This cocktail is a great option for individuals who prefer stronger drinks. Feel free to place a thinly sliced lime along the rim of the glass.

Create an elegant drink with Pimm’s, lemonade, and sparkling wine. Start by filling a wine glass with medium-sized, rounded or square ice cubes. Next, pour in 50 millilitres (1.7 fl oz) of Pimm’s No. 1, as well as 75 millilitres (2.5 fl oz) of lemonade. Mix both of these ingredients together before pouring 25 millilitres (0.85 fl oz) of sparkling white wine over the Pimm’s and lemonade mixture. Consider garnishing this drink with several thin, round cucumber slices and a sprig of mint.

Make a refreshing twist on a traditional gin and tonic. Pour 4 fluid ounces (120 mL) of Pimm’s No. 1 into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Next, add in 2 fluid ounces (59 mL) of lemon juice and 0.5 fluid ounces (15 mL) of sugar syrup into the shaker. After mixing the ingredients together in the shaker, pour the mixture over ice into 2 collins glasses. Top the drink off with tonic until you reach your desired alcohol and mixer ratio. Try to leave at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space below the rim of the drink. Garnish the rim of the glass with a thin slice of cucumber.

Combine Pimm’s, ginger beer, and gin for the ultimate party drink. Take your traditional Pimm’s drink to the next level by adding a small slice of ginger, 3 mint leaves, ½ strawberry, and 1 cucumber slice into a cocktail shaker. Add in 0.25 fluid ounces (7.4 mL) of lemon juice, 1 fluid ounce (30 mL) of Pimm’s, and 1 fluid ounce (30 mL) of regular gin. After shaking up the ingredients, pour the mixture through a mesh strainer into a large, ice-filled glass. Finish off the drink by topping it with 2 fluid ounces (59 mL) of ginger beer. Feel free to garnish the beverage with another cucumber slice, ½ of a strawberry, and a lemon wheel rind.

Add some citrus flair by mixing Pimm’s with both lemon and orange juice. Fill a highball glass halfway with medium-sized, rounded or square ice cubes. Add 50 millilitres (1.7 fl oz) of Pimm’s into the glass, then pour in 25 millilitres (0.85 fl oz) of both lemon and orange juice. Finish off the beverage by pouring 1 tablespoon (15 mL) or so of sugar syrup over the top of the drink. You can garnish this drink with an orange slice. Overall, make sure you add 50 millilitres (1.7 fl oz) total of both lemon and orange juice.
