Divya Pahuja, an accused in her ex-boyfriend and gangster Sandeep Gadoli’s murder, has been shot dead in a hotel in Haryana’s Gurugram, months after she came out of jail on bail. On Tuesday night, five people took Divya (27) to a hotel and shot her in the head.
Three of them were arrested by Haryana police. The search is on for the other two. A massive manhunt is also on for Divya’s body, which the accused allegedly disposed of.
Who Was Divya Pahuja?
A former model, Divya was the daughter of a vegetable and fruit seller in Gurugram’s Baldev Nagar. Her father is differently abled. She has one younger sister apart from her parents in her family.
Divya got herself enrolled in a B.Com course in 2018. It was around that time that she started modelling. However, she dropped out of the B.Com course later.
Her association with the underworld began in 2016 when she was just 18 years old. She was the girlfriend of Gurugram’s most-wanted gangster Sandeep Gadoli, who was killed in an encounter by Haryana Police in a Mumbai hotel in 2016.
Gadoli’s encounter came under scrutiny later, resulting in the arrest of Divya, her mother and five policemen, for allegedly revealing the gangster’s whereabouts.
According to the Mumbai Police, Virendra Kumar alias Binder Gujjar, who ran a rival gang, allegedly conspired with Haryana Police officials to eliminate Gadoli, according to a report by news agency PTI.
Gujjar was in prison at the time of the encounter, but he hatched the conspiracy with the help of his brother Manoj and roped in Divya as a honey trap.
As part of the plan, Gadoli was lured into a trap with the help of his then-girlfriend Divya and killed in a fake encounter on February 7, 2016, Mumbai police said.
After spending seven years in jail, Divya was granted bail by the Bombay High Court in June 2023.
While granting her bail, the court cited her prolonged incarceration and the expected lengthy trial as grounds for her release.
Five people allegedly took her to a hotel in Gurugram on Tuesday night and shot her in the head there.
Divya’s Connection With Sandeep Gadoli
Gadoli was a dreaded gangster from Gurugram, who was charged with a string of murders over the period of two decades. Before he died in 2016, he had 36 cases registered against him and carried a cash reward of Rs 1.25 lakh on his head. He was also accused of killing municipal councillor Binder Gujjar’s driver in October 2015.
After his death, Gadoli’s family members alleged that Divya was not his girlfriend, and she was passing information about him to her mother Sonia at regular intervals, who shared the information with Gurugram Police and Gujjar.
During the probe, Divya told cops that Gadoli was not her boyfriend and was introduced to her as Rishabh by one Manish Khurana. She went on a trip to Goa with him as he promised that he would give her a flat in Gurgaon.
