New Delhi: In a bid to aspire young India footballers to showcase their talent, the third edition of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge (MYFC), the country's largest Under-14 school football tournament, will kick off in New Delhi on November 2.
The tournament will feature 32 of the leading football-playing schools from the city. These teams will compete to bag the honour of Delhi's 'Champion School' which will then face other champions from Bangalore, Kolkata, Kerala (Kochi and Calicut), Mumbai and Goa.
Among the top 32 schools, the major names include CRPF Rohini, Sanskriti HS, Modern School Barakhamba Road, St. Xavier's HS, Bal Bhavan Public School and DPS RK Puram.
MYFC has taken this step to promote football at the grassroots level. It has partnered with Scottish football giants Celtic Football Club, who will take the responsibility of training and grooming the young talent. The Delhi leg of the MYFC is being conducted by the Cricket & Sports Association of Delhi. The matches will be played at the Ganga International School.
Speaking to the reporters at a press conference Mufaddal Choonia, deputy manager of Corporate Strategy, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said: "We are excited to announce the third season of the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge. We want the young boys to play football in a professionally manaed environment and train with Celtic Football Club, which is one of the leading football clubs in the world."
