Manchester United’s stadium Old Trafford experienced an almost biblical downpour of rain, following their defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s men reigned supreme on United’s home turf, thanks to a lone strike from Leandro Trossard in the first half.
Following the defeat, a video of rain seeping in through the visible cracks at the stadium went viral on social media. There was a huge waterfall gushing through the stadium’s ceiling, filling up the stands below it.

The commentator could be heard hinting towards the infrastructural faults that were now appearing at the old venue.
Before moving on to an interview with Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag, the commentator said, “Miserable day for Manchester United in the rain around Old Trafford. Cracks appearing in the Stadium. Cracks, it seems, have been there in the dressing room for most of this campaign.”

Towards the end of the Manchester United vs Arsenal clash, water was seen cascading down from the corner roof between the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and East Stand at Old Trafford. Other clips on social media revealed water flowing down the steps of Sir Bobby Charlton Stand as well.
It resulted in the flooding of a moat around the pitch.
As per a post on X, the downpour even made its way to Arsenal’s dressing room due to the leaks from the roof. Given that the Gunners had already secured a big victory, it was quite unlikely that the leaking water had dampened their joy.

These leaks were the latest reminders to Manchester United’s management to take remedial action to restore the stadium’s structural integrity as the storied venue continues to crumble after decades of negligence.
The club are backing their latest investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s vision to bulldoze Old Trafford and build a ‘Wembley of the North’ at a cost of £2 billion. The British billionaire would also be considering the idea of renovating the stadium if his original plan doesn’t turn out to be feasible.
As a part of his £1.3 billion investment in United, Ratcliffe had already pledged £237 million to upgrade Old Trafford. The latest videos now suggest that plenty more cash will be needed to plug the gaps at the 114-year-old stadium.
As for Manchester United’s Premier League campaign, the Red Devils are currently in eighth place on the league table with 16 wins in 36 games. They will play their remaining fixtures against Newcastle United on May 16 and Brighton on May 19.
