London: However frustrating Jose Mourinho finds Chelsea's Premier League form, Schalke's Bundesliga start has been far worse. As they prepare to meet in the Champions League on Wednesday, Chelsea are second domestically - five points behind Arsenal - and Schalke are already 12 points adrift in Germany in sixth place.

With Basel hosting Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday, here are five things to know about Group E:

NO TORRES

Schalke won't have to face the striker who scored twice in the 3-0 home loss to Chelsea last month. Fernando Torres missed training on Tuesday morning with a muscular leg injury. Manager Jose Mourinho says Torres will go for a scan on Wednesday and will also miss Saturday's match against West Bromwich Albion.

MOURINHO MELLOWS

The Chelsea manager was angry on Saturday when a six-match winning run ended with a 2-0 loss to Newcastle. But after saying he made 11 wrong selections, Mourinho now says he will try to "make changes not to punish people."

"When you win and win and win sometimes players forget why they win and they think they win just because they are good," he added.

Chelsea responded from their loss to Basel in the Group E opener by winning at Steaua Bucharest and at Schalke. Chelsea are locked on six points with Schalke at the top of Group E but ahead of goal difference.

NO SIGHTSEEING TRIP

Schalke defender Joel Matip says his team is not going to London to do sightseeing.

"One year ago, no one thought that we could earn something at Arsenal. And we have something to make up for," Matip said.

Schalke won 2-0 at Arsenal last season - after a draw and four defeats on English soil - and are seeking to make amends for a 3-0 home loss to Chelsea.

Adam Szalai, one of few Schalke forwards not on the long-term injury list, himself needed minor surgery after getting hit in the ear in the 2-0 victory at Hertha Berlin over the weekend.

"There is absolutely no problem for me to play. If we manage to get some points in London it would be great before the final two games because the group is wide open and everything is possible," Szalai said.

BUCHAREST BONDING

A rift between Steaua's management and fans appears to have repaired - for the moment at least - ahead of the Basel match. General manager Mihai "Meme" Stoica met with fans who had been booing him and the team, and pleaded with them to support the players in hard times and to stop demoralizing jeers.

The discussion took place at National Arena after Steaua's 1-1 draw against Basel on Oct. 22.

Since then, fans have not booed Stoica in domestic league games. Steaua fans fell out with Stoica after he criticized players from the club's so-called golden era.

BASEL PLAYING CATCH-UP

Basel have a quick chance to banish memories of their 1-1 draw in Bucharest two weeks ago, when Steaua's 88th-minute leveler tilted the balance in the group away from the Swiss champion.

Steaua's only goal, and point, so far in the group has left them as the last-place also-ran. Basel trail two points behind Schalke and Chelsea, that previously beat the Romanian team 3-0 and 4-0, respectively.

The fast start Basel got from their stunning 2-1 win at Chelsea in the opening round will have been wasted without victory at St. Jakob Park on Wednesday.

Since letting victory slip in Bucharest, Swiss league leader Basel have drawn both their matches, but needed a goal deep in stoppage-time from veteran forward Marco Streller to earn a point at Aarau on Saturday.
