Margao: Sporting Clube de Goa are looking to spring a surprise as they prepare take on Federation Cup Champions East Bengal in their opening encounter of the I-League at the Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.
Sporting have failed to get the right start to the season, losing to weaker teams to bow out of the Durand Cup and Federation Cup. But coach Ekendra Singh has regrouped the squad and is ready to spring a surprise against the Kolkata side.
"I-League is a different ballgame where we need to remain focussed during the marathon league and for that we need a good start. My boys are ready for the challenge and are banking on the homecrowd to get the better of East Bengal," Singh said.
East Bengal arrived here on Friday without Harmonjit Singh Kabra.
Coach Trevor Morgan is expected to field the same squad that beat Dempo in the final of the Federation Cup except for Harmonjit Singh and Gurwinder Singh who have not come along.
