Malaga: Malaga says Brazilian defender Weligton will be sidelined for two months after having surgery on a broken collarbone. The Spanish club says that Weligton suffered the injury during a recent friendly against Aston Villa. He underwent surgery on Wednesday in a hospital in Barcelona.
This is Weligton's sixth season with Malaga. He helped the Costa del Sol side earn promotion in his first season in 2007-08 and reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season.
The 33-year-old center back is one of the few important players the club has not sold over the past year.
Malaga lost its first Spanish league game under new coach Bernd Schuster, 1-0 at Valencia, last weekend. It hosts defending Spanish champions Barcelona on Monday in the second round.
