Julian Alvarez To Leave Manchester City as Argentine Forward Seeks More Gametime, Says Report
According to a report, the Premier League champions will consider selling Alvarez this summer only if any club pays at least £60 million plus a further £17 million in add-ons.

Julian Alvarez may part ways with Manchester City in this summer transfer window. The Argentine forward is reportedly not happy with his game at the Premier League club. The Athletic further claimed that the footballer and his family also want to stay in a city where the weather is warmer than Manchester. Alvarez has already spent two seasons with Pep Guardiola’s side. He made 54 appearances across all competitions last term and scored 19 goals. In terms of minutes spent on the pitch, the youngster was also the eighth-highest outfield player for Manchester City in the 2023-24 campaign.

According to the Athletic report, the Premier League champions will consider selling Alvarez this summer only if any club pays at least £60 million plus a further £17 million in add-ons. If the deal happens, Manchester City will gain significant profit. They secured the signing of Alvarez from River Plate for only £18 million two years ago.

Several European clubs have already shown their interest in the 24-year-old forward. As per Marca, Atletico Madrid has already approached Manchester City to discuss a potential deal for Alvarez. The Premier League giants, however, ‘flatly refused’ the offer. Athletico is unlikely to return with an improved bid as the youngster’s £60 million asking price seems quite hefty to them.

Fresh off a Copa America triumph, Julian Alvarez has also come under the radar of some other Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal. However, if the climate issue is true, the forward may choose to play away from England.

When asked about his transfer rumours last month, Alvarez told ESPN, “A lot is being said about my future but I’m calm. I’m comfortable and happy at Manchester City. We’ll see what happens.”

Alvarez has four years left in his current Manchester City contract. If he opts to stay at the Etihad Stadium, the Argentine prodigy will likely be Pep Guardiola’s second-choice striker after Erling Haaland. Alvarez featured in five matches for Argentina in their recent triumphant Copa America campaign. He is currently playing his trade at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

After returning from national duty, Alvarez will take a summer break before shifting his focus to club football. So, Manchester City will miss his service in the first few matches of the new season. They will face derby rivals Manchester United in the Community Shield on August 10. The reigning champions will begin their Premier League campaign with an away game against Chelsea on August 18.
