Manchester United Star Jadon Sancho is poised to return to Old Trafford once his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund comes to an end. Having fallen out with his coach Erik ten Hag, Sancho was able to find a place in his former club in Germany. A loan fee of around £3 million has been agreed upon by the two clubs but Dortmund won’t be looking to make the deal permanent. This would see him return to England in the summer once his loan deal with the Bundesliga side expires. The United forward is currently training alone and is set to join the Dortmund camp in Marbella within the next two days.
According to The Mirror UK, the primary factor hindering Borussia Dortmund from re-signing their former player is his astronomically high wages. The England international moved to Old Trafford in 2021 for a transfer fee of £73 million. He signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils which would also see him earn around £250,000-a-week. A loan deal would mean that Dortmund would also have to pay the player’s wages which they just cannot match due to financial constraints. Hence, in an approach to secure the six-month loan deal Manchester United have agreed to pay a third of their player’s salary during his tenure with Dortmund. Sancho will leave the club in this January transfer window but he remains contracted to United until 2026.
Jandon Sancho saw himself get banished from first-team training after a public rift with his coach Erik ten Hag. The Manchester United star has so far refused to apologise for his words, leading to the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) offering to act as a mediator to rebuild the duo’s relationship. Despite the apology refusal, United are hoping that the England star can rediscover his form in Germany. A good stint in the Bundesliga would improve United’s chances of selling their player for a decent amount in the summer. Yet, it is unlikely they will be able to recoup anywhere close to the original amount they had shelled out for the player back in 2021.
While playing in a Borussia Dortmund shirt from 2017 to 2021, Sancho netted 50 goals while setting up his teammates 64 times in 137 caps. He developed a brilliant understanding with Erling Haaland at the club, winning the DFB Pokal with Dortmund in 2021. The same cannot be said for his spell at Old Trafford. Sancho has made a total of 82 appearances in a Manchester United kit but has netted a mere 12 goals and provided six assists. It will be interesting to see if he can take Bundesliga by storm once again during his loan spell.
