New Delhi: The normally humble and modest Lionel Messi has finally let his true emotions show after spending the entire season playing it safe with his words to avoid falling into complacency.
The Argentine was still overjoyed to have won the Champions League and help Barcelona complete a unique treble and he believes that achievement will make the club go down into the history books.
"We have demonstrated that we are the best," he told Sport. "I’m also happy because everyone seems to enjoy our football, whether or not they are Barca fans."
"All over the world, I’ve heard people saying that they have been enchanted by us. This type of football deserves to be rewarded with titles," he added.
The 21-year-old continued, "We had the opportunity to go down in history as a great club and we have done it. I think it will be very difficult for something like this to be repeated.”
Barcelona have become the first Spanish side to win the domestic league and cup title as well as the Champions League and only a small handful of clubs across Europe to have won the treble.
