Although Deadpool & Wolverine was packed with several great moments, we truly missed Karan Soni’s Dopinder in the film. The Indian-American actor plays the role of a cab driver in the beloved Deadpool franchise. His bromance with Ryan Reynolds in the first two Deadpool films is still widely talked about. So it came as a heartbreak that he had only a couple of scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, in an exclusive chat with News18, Karan admitted he was aware of his limited screen time and is proud to be a part of Deadpool’s journey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Yeah, a little bit,” Karan said when asked if he knew about his limited role time. “I think this movie is so epic and it is so big, and it is quite different from the other two Deadpool movies because it is now introduced into the MCU so I think in order to make this specific chapter into its own thing, I think Ryan and writers smartly decided to sort of have Deadpool explore this world on his own. I think for the rest of us, there was a moment where we were like, okay, he is going to go off on his adventure and do that,” Karan said.
“It definitely does feel bittersweet because obviously, it is such a joy to play this character and work with Ryan but at the same time, I look at it as the beginning of a new chapter in this world. For a lot of us, it is still so exciting. I grew up (watching) the MCU world, I saw the first Iron Man in theatres. I saw almost all the (MCU) movies at this point so it still gave me that giddy feeling,” the Deadpool actor confessed.
Recalling being a part of the franchise from the first Deadpool film which was released in 2016, Karan added, “I was at the (New York) premiere and I felt weirdly emotional watching this and thinking ‘Oh my god, we went from this movie that no one cared about to now, in many ways, Deadpool is out here reigniting the MCU’ so I felt proud of Ryan and of the whole thing. There are two big movie stars in this movie, there is Hugh Jackman and he’s such an icon and in order for it to be worthy of him reprising the role, it had to be a lot of Ryan and Hugh together so I understood all of the things but it’s just the joy to be with Ryan and play any version of the character and I really hope I get to do that again in many ways. It was definitely a different experience.”
Here’s hoping that Deadpool 3 goes into making soon and we see more of Dopinder in Marvel Studios’ universe now. Until then, Deadpool & Wolverine is now screening in cinemas.
