Timings For UP Secondary Schools Extended By One Hour; Check New Schedule
The Intermediate Education Act, 1921 has been amended for this change and the directions have been issued by the Secondary Education Department.

The class timings of all government secondary schools and non-government secondary schools with the support of the Uttar Pradesh board have reportedly been extended by one hour.

The new class timings apply to 27,871 secondary schools across the state. The change has been made to ensure the minimum duration of study schools under the National Education Policy (NEP). The Intermediate Education Act, 1921 has been amended for this change and the directions have been issued by the Secondary Education Department.

As per the new timings, the secondary schools across the state will operate from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. Previously, the timings were from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, which have now been extended by one hour.

According to the order issued by the Special Secretary of, the Secondary Education Department, Umesh Chandra, 40 credits have been allocated for each class in the schools in the state as per the national performance framework under the National Education Policy. The order also mandates that 1,200 hours must be available for classes and other extra-curricular activities.

The new order states that schools must be open for at least six hours to provide timely education to students. From April 1 to September 30, UP Board secondary schools will be open from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. The schools will be open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm from October 1 to March 31.

Given the scorching heat in the north Indian states, several teachers have demanded slight relaxation in class timings, but it has been decided to conduct classes as per the rules. Primary and secondary schools run by the Basic Education Council are already open from 7:30 am to 1 pm.

The IMD has issued a red alert for severe heat waves in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. An orange alert has also been issued for Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh for the next 4-5 days. According to the IMD, the heatwave will continue in most areas of the eastern and southern states including Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka during May.
