The Ministry of Education will release the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) or NIRF Ranking 2024 on August 12, 2024. “India Rankings 2024 will be released on 12th August 2024 at 3 pm,” reads the official notice. The NIRF Rankings 2024 will be announced at 3 PM during a press conference to be headed by the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Last year, a new category was added namely agriculture and allied sectors. It was added along with the existing categories including colleges, universities, overall ranking, management, pharmacy, engineering, medical, law, architecture, and dental colleges.

NIRF assesses Indian institutes in teaching-learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. For the NIRF, out of the total 100 per cent, 30 per cent weightage is given to teaching, learning and resources and research and professional practice each. While 20 per cent weightage has been given to graduation outcomes, 10 to outreach and inclusivity, and perception. NIRF ranks higher educational institutions in the country based on objective criteria to promote competitive excellence in higher educational institutions.

In 2023, IIT Madras topped the overall rankings while IISc Bengaluru was adjudged as the top university. Indian Agricultural Research Institute secured the top rank in agriculture and allied sectors while IIM Ahmedabad was ranked as the best management institute. Miranda House was the top college in the country for the fourth time in a row. In 2022, IIT Madras was ranked as the top college in India overall followed by IISC Bangalore, which was also the best-ranking institute in research and the university categories.

There was an increase in the number of colleges that applied for the ranking last year. A total of 8686 institutes took part in NIRF 2023. There was a 150 per cent jump in the number of institutes applying for NIRF since its launch in 2015, Anil Kumar Nassa, NBA member secretary had said.
