Meet Annie George, Kerala Woman Who Secured AIR 83 In UPSC On First Attempt
The aspirant completed her postgraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Kerala.

The success stories of IAS officers inspire UPSC aspirants, who work day and night to achieve their dreams. Every year thousands of candidates sit for this exam, but only a few manage to crack it. Even fewer are those who crack the exam in the first attempt. Now, we will talk about Annie George, who cracked the UPSC exam 2023 with an All-India rank of 93 in the first attempt. She is a native of Alakode in Kannur, Kerala, who secured AIR 93 on her first attempt in the UPSC exam 2023. Expressing her joy, she said, “Though I was optimistic, I did not expect to score such a good rank in the first attempt. I am very happy.” Now she is on her way to becoming an IAS officer.

Annie George completed her postgraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Kerala, Kariavattom. By relying mainly on NCERT texts, she built a solid foundation that helped her pass the UPSC CSE in the first attempt. After that, she fulfilled her dream of clearing the civil services examination. Her father is a retired deputy panchayat director and her mother is a teacher. Her parents have played an important role in her success. The other successful candidates from Kannur include Shilja Jose from Ambayathode and K Sayant from Thalassery who secured ranks 529 and 701 respectively.

In Kasaragod, Rahul Raghavan, son of M Raghavan, a grocer near Uduma LP School, and T Chintamani, a nurse in Uduma PHC, secured the 714th rank. The other successful candidates from Kasaragod include Anusha R Chandran from Odayanchal in Kanhangad (791st rank), Suraj R.K. from Beerenangode (843rd rank) and Kajal Raju from Nileshwaram (956th rank).

Recently, IAS officer Awanish Sharan shared screenshots of UPSC study blogs titled, “18 ghante ki padai (18 hour study)” and “Subah 3 baje se raat 11 baje ki padai (Studying from 3 am to 11 pm)” and labelled these videos as “misleading”.

He wrote, “’Misleading!!! Stay away from these blogs. Itna bhi padhna nahi hota hai (You don’t have to read this much).”
