Madras Medical College Topper Prashanth Cracks UPSC On First Attempt

We often see people preparing for the UPSC examination after finishing their MBBS degree. For some, serving the country as a civil servant has always been a dream. The Union Public Service Commission recently announced the results of the UPSC examination 2023. Today, we are going to talk about one such candidate who cracked the UPSC exam and is also a medical student.

Prashanth, a resident of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, secured an AIR 78 in the UPSC CSE 2023. The MBBS student did his schooling at D.A.V. Boys Senior Secondary School, Gopalapuram. Following his school education he started to prepare for NEET. He cracked the examination in his first attempt and joined Madras Medical College. In an interview, he mentioned that he emerged as a topper multiple times in the Medical College and has won 36 medals to date.

Prashanth mentioned that he started preparing for the examination along with his medical studies. He reportedly cracked the toughest exam in India on his first attempt. He said that he always wanted to serve the country and be part of policy-making that can bring changes in people’s lives.

When asked about the secret behind his success, Prashanth said, “The Naan Mudhalvan scheme helped me a lot to prepare for the exam. I want to especially thank my family and my teachers for their unwavering support. It is because of their support I could touch this milestone today. I took Medical Sciences as my optional paper and my MBBS studies made it easy for me.”

Prashanth said why he chose to pursue civil services, “By serving as a doctor I can hardly meet 60-70 patients a day but If I become a civil servant I can serve millions of people.” He further stated that he was part of the Indian Medical Association and the UNESCO Bioethics Council which inspired him to join civil services and be a part of decision-making.”

When asked about his family the 24-year-old boy said that his father passed away while suffering from cancer when he was in 12th grade. He mentioned that his mother worked hard for him so that he never faced any problems in his studies.
