Firozabad Schools To Offer Therapy And Counseling For Handicapped Children
The counselling aims to educate parents on how to best care for their children at home, ensuring they can continue the support outside of school.

New facilities are being introduced to support handicapped children studying in council schools in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. These efforts fall under the Integrated Education for Handicapped Children program. The Firozabad education department is preparing to launch these services with a budget of several lakhs of rupees. Initially, two blocks in the district, Jasrana and Madanpur, will be the first to benefit from these new facilities.

As part of the initiative, resource rooms will be established in these blocks. These rooms will be equipped to provide essential services, such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy, for handicapped children. Ajay Pandey, the District Coordinator for Integrated Education, revealed that the government has permitted to construction of these resource rooms, with around two lakh rupees allocated for each room.

The resource rooms will serve multiple functions. They will offer speech therapy to help children with language difficulties, as well as occupational therapy to support children in developing daily life skills. Functional assessments will also be conducted to better understand each child’s needs. In addition to providing these therapies, the resource rooms will serve as a space for parents to receive counselling. This counselling aims to educate parents on how to best care for their children at home, ensuring they can continue the support outside of school.

To enhance the effectiveness of these resource rooms, physiotherapy equipment will be purchased, allowing for comprehensive treatment of physical disabilities. The rooms will be established in primary schools in the Jasrana and Madanpur blocks, with plans to expand to other blocks in the future. Trained physiotherapists will be employed to deliver these services, ensuring that the children receive appropriate care and support during school hours.

The introduction of these resource rooms marks a significant step forward in the education and well-being of handicapped children in Firozabad. By providing specialised services within the school environment and involving parents in the process, the education department aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for these students. This initiative will help ensure that handicapped children not only receive an education but also have access to the physical and emotional support they need to thrive.
