The Directorate of Education (DoE), New Delhi, will release the first merit list of selected candidates for admission to pre-school (Nursery), pre-primary (kindergarten), and Class 1 today, January 12, 2024. The first merit list will be released at all the private and unaided schools across Delhi. This list will be a key step in the competitive admissions process for the academic year 2024-25. The admission process which started on November 23, 2023, will end on March 8, 2024.
According to officials, if two or more students have similar scores, schools will draw lots to determine the final list. Once the Delhi Nursery’s first merit admission list is released, parents/guardians can access it via the school websites. Parent’s questions about the allocation of points to their children will be addressed via written/email/verbal interaction from January 13, 2024, to January 22, 2024.
The DoE manages a centralised online admissions process for 25 per cent of seats reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). This initiative aims to ensure a fair and systematic admissions process, particularly for students from underprivileged backgrounds. As families wait for the results of their applications, their anticipation grows.
Delhi Nursery Admission 2024-25: Eligibility Criteria
The admission age requirements are listed below:
–– Nursery: 3 to under 4 years.
–– Kindergarten(KG): 4 to less than 5 years.
–– Class 1: 5 to under 6 years.
To ensure a thorough and organised schedule for the required formalities, parents have until March 8, 2024, to finish the admissions process.
Delhi Nursery Admission 2024-25: Selection Process
The selection process uses a point system in which specific scores are assigned to different criteria. The highest weight is given to neighbourhood proximity, indicating the importance of geographical location in the admissions process.
Siblings and alumni connections are two additional criteria. Some schools even take into account factors such as being a firstborn, being a girl child, or having a single parent.
Importantly, parental qualifications, occupation, and financial status are purposefully excluded from the selection procedure. Schools have the freedom to define and assign marks to each criterion based on their preferences.
On January 29, 2024, the second list of selected students, including the waiting list, will be made available, along with the points system’s assigned marks. Schools will create and implement admissions criteria that are equitable, reasonable, well-defined, non-discriminatory, clear-cut, and transparent in choosing the students.
