The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to kick off on October 3 in the United Arab Emirates. This will be the ninth edition of the tournament, which will extend till October 20.
Bangladesh were the original hosts of the upcoming iteration of the Women’s T20 World Cup. With the political unrest in the country, the competition had to be moved to the UAE.
The upcoming edition of the tournament will feature 10 teams that will vie for the crown. Australia will be heading into the tournament as the defending champions. They are also the most successful side in the Women’s T20 World Cup history with six trophies.
Australia have won the last three editions in succession and they will now be looking to defend their crown for a record-extending fourth time. Alyssa Healy will lead the Australian camp in the mega event. They are placed alongside some top-tier cricketing sides, including the likes of India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.
India have made the Women’s T20 World Cup final once back in the 2020 edition. They were beaten in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, losing the match by 85 runs to Australia. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side will now be looking to spearhead the Indian women to victory this time. India will face some heated competition from England and Australia at the event.
