'Will Virat Kohli’s Confidence Take A Hit If He Bats At No. 3? No Chance', Says Ravichandran Ashwin
'Will Virat Kohli’s Confidence Take A Hit If He Bats At No. 3? No Chance', Says Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin reckoned that Kohli's failure in the league stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will not make any impact on the star batter's confidence.

Virat Kohli has not yet been able to showcase his A-game in the T20 World Cup 2024. Featuring in all matches of the league stage, Kohli returned with scores of one, four and zero. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels Kohli will regain his form if the team management lets him bat at number three. As of now in the T20 World Cup, Kohli has paired up with captain Rohit Sharma to open the innings. According to Ashwin, India can promote Rishabh Pant up in the batting order or try Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener to allow Kohli to come to the number three spot.

Ashwin reckons that the failure in the league stage will not make any impact on Virat Kohli’s confidence. Ahead of India’s opening Super Eight game against Afghanistan, Ashwin discussed Kohli’s form with Robin Uthappa on his YouTube channel.

“There is no chance for a player like Virat Kohli to damage his confidence. He will say, ‘You brought me down to number 3, I will show you who I am.’. That’s how he will bat, first of all. I am saying this because I know him," Ravichandran Ashwin said.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Robin Uthappa explained, “Virat Kohli’s physiology, after the previous match, I saw a glimpse of it. Maybe five seconds. He interacted with some of the players and talked to the support staff. When you see his physiology, you can tell that man is exuding supreme confidence. And that comes from a place of knowing about his own game and the confidence in his ability. So, he knows that this is just a blip in the radar."

As part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kohli played as an opener in the last edition and he certainly excelled in that role. Playing along with skipper Faf du Plessis at the top of the order, Kohli aggregated 741 runs in his 15 appearances in the competition. He scored at a strike rate of 154.70 while registering one century and five fifty-plus scores.

Kohli currently needs 104 runs to dethrone Pakistan’s Babar Azam on the list of the most runs in the T20 World Cup. The talismanic India batter will return to action when India take on Afghanistan in a Super Eight game today at the T20 World Cup 2024.
