Watch: Recovering Rishabh Pant Starts Wicketkeeping Ahead of IPL 2024
Rishabh Pant has been out of action for nearly 14 months now since suffering injuries after a horrific car crash in December 2022.

In what will be music to the collective ears of Indian cricket fans, Rishabh Pant has shared an encouraging clip from his training session in which he’s undergoing batting and wicketkeeping drills.

The clip seems to be from an indoor practice session with Pant unfurling a series of cover and straight drives and also bringing out the pull shot.

Pant has been out of action for over a year, missing a host of major international tournaments after getting injured in a horrific car accident in December 2022.

Pant suffered multiple injuries including cuts on forehead, bruises on back, damage to ankle. He underwent surgeries for ligament tears in his right knee.

He then underwent extensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

CricketNext had reported in December last year how BCCI isn’t going to rush Pant’s comeback despite him making a significant progress, getting closer to be match fit.  It was something that they successfully implemented during long injury layoffs of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah.

“Pant’s recovery has been on point, in fact better than expected. The concern was how the knee and ankle would react after the injury. Especially the knee after ligament tears and surgeries. Both ankle and knee engagement has been on point and that was a big positive considering they are going to bear a lot of load during wicketkeeping,” a source close to developments told this website.

Meanwhile, the IPL is likely to get underway in a month’s time and Pant working on his wicketkeeping is also a positive news from his franchise Delhi Capitals.

In Pant’s absence last season, DC were led by David Warner and they finished ninth in the 10-team competition.

DC coach Ricky Ponting had recently revealed how Pant is confident of playing in every match of the upcoming IPL season.

“Rishabh is very confident that he’s going to be right to play. In what capacity we’re not quite sure yet. You would have seen all the social media stuff, he’s up and about and running well. But in saying that we’re only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we’re not sure if we’ll get wicketkeeping out of him this year,” Ponting told earlier this month.
