Asha Shobana now is the oldest debutant for the Indian women's cricket team at the age of 33 years and 51 days old.

Indian cricket Asha Sobhana set an incredible record during the fourth T20I match against Bangladesh women’s cricket team. At the age of 33 years and 51 days, Sobhana made her T20I debut at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh. With this, she became the oldest Indian women’s cricketer to make her debut in T20I cricket.

Sobhana surpassed the previous record held by Seema Pujare who had achieved the feat at the age of 32 years and 50 days against Australia in Sydney back in October 2008. Sobhana’s impressive series of performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) helped her in securing the maiden cap.

Representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore, she became the first Indian to register a five-wicket haul in the WPL. Ahead of the fourth T20I against Bangladesh, Sobhana was handed the India cap by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.

A video of Smriti Mandhana presenting the cap to Asha Sobhana was shared by the official handle of the India Women’s Cricket Team on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “That Debut feeling. Team India Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana presents the cap to debutant Asha Sobhana,” read the caption.

Asha Sobhana replaced Shreyanka Patil in India’s playing XI for the fourth T20I against Bangladesh. Sobhana was in tremendous form in the second edition of the WPL held earlier this year. The leg spinner earned 12 dismissals in the competition to become the second-highest wicket-taker. She had finished just one wicket behind Patil. Sobhana’s spectacular performance played a key role in guiding the Bengaluru-based franchise to a WPL triumph in the second season.
