T20 World Cup: Groundsman at USA vs Ireland Clash Seen Washing Hands Near Damp Florida Pitch as Pakistan Faces Possible Elimination

Whilst Pakistan awaits the official call for the rain-delayed USA vs Ireland match with bated breath, the groundsmen are seemingly at ease, as a member of the ground staff was seen washing his hands near an already-damp pitch that has been delaying the anticipated encounter.

After an hour of tending by the groundsmen, umpires took to the pitch, to check conditions yet again, only to find damp spots in the pitch. This led to yet another inspection that was supposed to take place after another hour’s delay.

During the broadcast of the pitch inspection, viewers had noticed the frame of a groundsman at work, washing his hands with water near the already-deemed damp pitch.

This erupted an avid response in social media with people coming to mock Pakistan’s chances of survival in the tournament, and some taking offense to the callous demeanour of the groundsmen.

Should the match be abandoned, USA will sail into the Super Eight stage shutting the doors on Pakistan, Canada and Ireland. A win for Ireland will keep them alive in the race but they will have to also improve their net run-rate besides getting the better of Pakistan.

Pakistan, who are situated at third place in the table with 2 points off 3 matches, had pinned all their hopes on a deflated Ireland side, which had incurred only two losses so far in the tournament, to steal the two points away from the hosts USA, and to provide a fighting chance for Pakistan to face off against none other than Pakistan itself in the last match of the group.
