'Sanju Kahaan Batting Karega': Sanju Samson Addresses His Position in Batting Order for India Ahead of T20 WC

To pick a squad of 15 members from a country with more than 1.3 billion people is bound to ruffle some feathers. And the selections made for the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June have been no less controversial.

One of the multiple talking points that have arisen has been about the wicketkeepers who made the cut, with the joyous news of one beloved Sanju Samson finally getting his shot to represent the Men in Blue in a World Cup tournament.

But, especially with the inclusion of once-stalwart and now recovered Rishabh Pant, who will mostly be the first-choice keeper, a problem arises in figuring out where Samson will make the most impact with the bat.

When asked by Star Sports if he has a batting position for India’s XI in mind for when the T20 World Cup kicks off in June, Sanju simply replied by stating, “That’s a very tricky question.”

“We definitely were thinking about it; everyone is thinking about the batting positions… Sanju kahaan batting karega and all (where will Sanju bat). But equally, I feel it is also important for the team that they try to win the IPL. As of now, winning the IPL is more important. The players should focus on that goal only,” added Samson.

In the minds of BCCI Chairman Ajit Agarkar though, Samson proves to be a versatile batter.

“Sanju has the ability to come down the order if need be,” stated Agarkar in a press conference yesterday addressing the selections made for the Indian squad ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Samson though has been doing a stellar job in all senses lately, leading his team, Rajasthan Royals, to the top spot so far in the IPL, with 8 wins and 2 losses in 10 matches, and has also been a stalwart batter for his side.

Despite his disappointing duck last night against Sunrisers Hyderabad, there is no mistaking the undeniable consistency that Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson has showcased this season. The Keralite has been firing on all cylinders, leading his team to the top spot so far, as well as lead them from the front with the bat, notching up 385 runs with ever-reliable consistency throughout the campaign.
