Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan showered immense praise on Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the T20 World Cup warm-match between the Asian neighbours. The practice game between India and Bangladesh is slated to take place at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 1.

While previewing the light-hearted encounter on Star Sports, Shakib lauded Rohit for his leadership skills, highlighting his accomplishments over the past few years. He feels Rohit is a rare breed of captain who can singlehandedly change the course of a game with his tactical decisions. Shakib also spoke about the respect other members of the Indian team have for the veteran opener.

“I think the way Rohit Sharma has led India in the last few years was terrific. He has a tremendous record as a captain. I think all the players respect him as a leader of the team. He’s someone who can take the game away from the opponent single-handedly,” the 37-year-old was heard saying in a video on X (formerly Twitter).

The caption of the post read, “Bangladesh stalwart Shakib al Hasan lauds Rohit Sharma’s exceptional leadership, batting brilliance & widespread admiration!”

Under the captaincy of Rohit, Team India hopes to recapture the coveted T20 World Cup title this year. The legendary MS Dhoni led the Men in Blue to win the showpiece tournament seventeen years back, emerging victorious in the inaugural 2007 edition.

As a T20 captain, Rohit has achieved many historic feats. He has won five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles as the skipper of Mumbai Indians. Rohit took over the charge of the Indian team in the shortest format ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, succeeding Virat Kohli.

Rohit led the Men in Blue to the semi-finals of the multi-nation tournament but failed to overcome the eventual champions England in the knockout game. His leadership excellence was also on display in the ODI World Cup last year. Rohit and Co. dominantly reached the final of the mega event on home soil. The hosts ultimately surrendered to Australia.

Rohit has stunning batting records in the T20 World Cup as well. He is India’s second-highest run-getter in the history of the tournament after Kohli. Rohit has featured in 36 T20 World Cup matches during his illustrious career, aggregating 963 runs at an average of 34.39.
