Getting a maiden India call-up for any youngster is no less than a fairytale. A few days ago, Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan underwent a similar feeling when he received the news of his India selection for the second Test against England at Visakhapatnam.
Banging the selectors’ door for the last couple of years, the 26-year-old finally made it to the India side after KL Rahul got ruled out due to an injury.
On the verge of making his international debut, Sarfaraz recalls how his family reacted to his achievement.

Speaking with BCCI.tv on the eve of the second Test, Sarfaraz said he couldn’t initially believe that he had actually made it to the Indian cricket team. And when he shared the news with his father, Naushad, it was an emotional moment for everyone in the Khan family.
“I was getting ready for the Ranji Trophy and had my bags packed. Suddenly, I got the call and I got to know that I had been selected. I didn’t believe it in the beginning. When I was confirmed about it, I called up my father. He was at our native place and he turned emotional after learning about the call-up. My wife, my mother all of them were emotional,” Sarfaraz said.
“Everyone knows that my father has been my coach. My only dream has been to fulfil his desire for me to play for the country,” he added.
The call-up is certainly a sign that hard work does pay off. Sarfaraz said he used to dream of playing for India and if he gets a game, it would be a surreal feeling.
“After the call-up, it does feel that the hard work has finally paid off and I’m very happy,” he said.
“I had dreamt that my India A teammates were congratulating me. Often in my dreams, I see that I’m playing for India and scoring runs. As they say, whatever happens, it happens for a reason. It will be a dream come true moment for me whenever I play for India,” Sarfaraz concluded.
