Suryakumar Yadav paid a visit to the iconic Yankee Stadium in the Bronx in New York City on Saturday. The ace batter recently won the T20 World Cup with the Indian team, defeating South Africa in the finals in Barbados. The World no.2 T20I batter was then appointed India’s next T20I captain who led the team to a 3-0 series whitewash against Sri Lanka last month.

Suryakumar is currently in New York where he visited the Yankee baseball stadium where he was honoured with a Yankees pinstripe jersey with his name and the number he dons on his t-shirt – No. 63. The Indian cricketer was left mesmerized as he entered the arena.

Determined to play all three formats

A linchpin in the T20I set-up, Suryakumar hasn’t given up on the longest format yet. He has informed the Mumbai selectors of his availability for the second half of the upcoming Buchi Babu Invitational tournament in Tamil Nadu. In fact, he asked the selectors not to change the leadership and is ready to play under the leadership of Sarfraz Khan.

Speaking with Times of India, Surya expressed his desire to keep playing in all three formats.

“I want to play for India in all three formats. Playing in Buchi Babu will give me good practice for the red-ball tournaments this season,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying.

Suryakumar recently led India to a 3-0 series sweep over Sri Lanka in his first tour as full-time T20I captain. With India not playing any more T20Is until October – in the series against Bangladesh – Suryakumar seems to be taking measures to make a comeback to Test cricket.

His most recent first-class appearance came last year in the Duleep Trophy. So far, the Mumbaikar has played 82 first-class matches and has scored 5628 runs and averages 43.62 with 29 fifties and 14 hundreds.
