Matthew Mott Set To Leave His Role As Head Coach Of England's White-Ball Teams – Report
Mott was appointed as head coach of England's ODI and T20I sides in 2022, and under his guidance, England won the 2022 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Matthew Mott is all set to leave his role as the head coach of England’s white-ball team after the Jos Buttler-led side failed to defend its ODI and T20 World Cup titles. According to a report in The Times on Tuesday (July 23), the Australian, who was appointed for the top job by ECB in 2022 and helped England win the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, is expected to leave his role after the conclusion of Rob Key’s review into the limited-overs team.

No final decision has been taken so far, but as per the report, Key, who is the managing director of England men’s cricket, has already begun looking for possible replacements.

It has been reported that Key, who played in 15 Tests, five ODIs, and one T20I for England during his playing days, wants England’s 2019 ODI World Cup-winning team captain Eoin Morgan to take charge of the white-ball team, but at present Morgan is not keen for the role as he is enjoying his work as a commentator and pundit.

The 37-year-old former cricketer also has a young family and does not want to spend long periods away from home.

Former England pacer and T20I captain Stuart Broad has hinted that former all-rounder and captain Andrew Flintoff can be an option to succeed Mott as head coach, and his upcoming stint as the head coach of the Northern Superchargers can be seen as an “audition.”

“The players I have spoken to, when he (Flintoff) has been involved in the coaching stuff, they have loved him,” Broad said. “He’s that great age where, for the players he’s now coaching, he was probably their hero. We know he’s got a brilliant cricket brain. We know he’s a cricket fan and has a lot of energy for it.

“He has ended up as one of the coaches of the Hundred franchises, I’m sure, with half an eye on building towards being an international coach in the future. Having someone like Freddie Flintoff involved in the game is only going to inspire the next generation,” he added.

Flintoff, who retired from cricket in 2015, has been working as an assistant coach and mentor with Jos Buttler’s white-ball team since last year.
