Dreams do come true indeed. It sure did for one Hardik Pandya, who has undergone a redemption of self with his glorious win at the T20 World Cup 2024.
India, facing off against the only other undefeated team in the tournament, South Africa, were on point in all departments, as they held their nerve to grind out a hard-fought 7-run win in the final and to take home the coveted trophy.
For Pandya, not only was Saturday quite possibly the crowning moment of his Indian career so far, but it was a journey years in the making, a moment of triumph in every sense of the word.
An emotional Pandya took to X, to share his pride and happiness in having achieved the feat of bringing glory back home, reminiscing on his journey from Baroda to Barbados.
“Just a boy from Baroda living his dream and grateful for everything that’s come his way. Cannot ask for anything more. Playing for my country will always be the greatest honour,” read the post by Pandya on X.

One of the main reasons behind the Indian team’s success has been the vice-captain of India, Hardik Pandya, who has proven time and time again to be the difference maker at the time of need when his side calls for him.
And Saturday was no different.
Pandya came into the bowling attack and struck to remove the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen with a slower and wider delivery, to tempt the hard-hitter to swing wildly and nick one for Pant behind the stumps for an easy soft dismissal. This was the start of South Africa’s demise.
And finally, with the weight of the entire nation on his shoulders, he was handed over the ball to bowl the last over, with South Africa needing 16 runs to win.
Pandya held his nerve, bowling a spectacular over, scalping two wickets, especially the pivotal one of David Miller off a sensational catch from Suryakumar Yadav, and giving away just 8 runs, to bring eternal glory back home to India, in the guise of a T20 World Cup.
