Putting an end to the wait of millions, the Indian cricket team are set to begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland on Wednesday, June 5. Team India boast a strong team this edition and they are one of the favourites to win the tournament.
India last won the T20 World Cup back in 2007, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Since then, they have only qualified one final where they lost to Sri Lanka back in 2014. India will now be heading into the tournament with a warm-up match victory against Bangladesh.
They competed against their Asian counterparts in New York recently. India won that match by 60 runs, courtesy of some impressive bowling from Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Dube. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now be looking to build on that momentum by taking down Ireland next.
India will square off against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The Irishmen have been in good form in T20Is in recent times. They were able to take down Pakistan once in their three-match series in May. They also beat the Netherlands narrowly by three runs in a warm-up fixture. Ireland lost their second warm-up match to Sri Lanka by 41 runs. They will now be looking to make some impact against India next.
