The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match between England and Scotland was called off due to recurring showers on Tuesday with both teams sharing a point each at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Scotland managed to score 90 runs for no loss in the truncated 10-over game, before recurring showers forced the match to be called off before England could begin their chase.

England’s target was revised to 109 runs needed off 10 overs through the DLS method before the officials decided that the game could not go on citing the weather conditions.

The Scotland openers, Michael Jones and George Munsey, kept the opposition bowlers under the pump for the majority of the contest.

Jones made 45 runs off just 30 balls as he registered two sixes and four fours while Munsey chipped in with an unbeaten 41 not out off 31 balls to support his partner at the other end.

Munsey was lucky to get away with one as Mark Wood, who had bounced him out on the third ball of the fifth over, was found to have overstepped the crease with skipper Jos Buttler taking a fine catch running behind.

Both the Scottish batters demonstrated their brilliant array of shots to pile pressure on the English side.

The contest witnessed multiple rain interruptions starting with a delay at the start of the game. A passing shower right after the toss left a wet spot on the pitch which forced a delay of 20 minutes, while the longest break came after the powerplay.

Scotland were on 51 for no loss in 6.2 overs when a heavy shower forced players into the shed and the long interruption forced the officials to cut the game short by 10 overs each.

For the defending champions England, both Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid lacked control with the ball in the team’s first outing in this World Cup and the bowling overall could not really trouble the Scottish opening pair. Returning Jofra Archer was taken for 12 runs in his 2 overs, while Wood and Moeen Ali leaked 11 and 15 runs in their 2 overs.

Scotland will next take on Namibia at the Kensington Oval on Friday, while England will face off against Australia at the same venue on Saturday.
