Duleep Trophy 2024: From Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli, Here's Full List of India Players Who Could Feature in The Domestic Competition
Ahead of hosting Bangladesh for two Tests, the Indian players will get into the red-ball mode by taking part in Duleep Trophy 2024.

In what will be a rare sight, the Indian domestic season is set for a star-studded kick-off with a host of international cricketers set to feature in the historic Duleep Trophy. The BCCI selectors want India players to take part in the revamped red-ball competition which starts from September 5.

The tournament will feature four teams – India A, India B, India C and India D. The BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar will be picking the squads.

CricketNext has reported that India Test regulars including captain Rohit Sharma, his predecessor Virat Kohli could likely be part of the competition.

While there’s no confirmation if both Rohit and Kohli will certainly take part, a majority of other Test stars and hopefuls will be representing the various teams.

During a media interaction last month, Agarkar had expressed his wish to see if not all but a few international players to be part of Duleep Trophy.

“It’s nice for the competition if all your top players come and play. It is not easy with such a packed and long season, it’s tough for the players if they have a week off somewhere to make them play. There will be some in the squad who will play,” Agarkar had said.

Duleep Trophy began in 1961-62 and over the years has undergone several changes. From a six-team competition (each representing a zone), it has now been changed to a four-team affair – India A, India B, India C and India D.

It will be played in a round-robin format and the team finishing at the top of the standings after three rounds will win the competition.

India Players Who Could be Part of Duleep Trophy

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, KS Bharat, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan

Will Jasprit Bumrah Play?

It seems like that fast bowler Bumrah could be given an exemption from appearing in the competition. Given the number of Tests India will play in the space of four months – 10 – and the value he brings to the table, the team management wants to keep him fresh and injury-free. There are also reports that he may end up sitting out of the two Tests against Bangladesh too since the pitches might primarily aid spinners.

What About Mohammed Shami?

Shami is continuing his rehab after undergoing an ankle surgery earlier this year. Agarkar had earlier said while there’s no clarity of the timeline of the veteran bowler’s recovery, they are hopeful of him returning for the first Test against Bangladesh.
