The owner of the Lucknow Super Giants, Sanjiv Goenka shared his stance on the rumours of the franchise possibly looking to splash big money to bring in the services of the Indian T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma to their side.
Speaking in an interview with SportsTak, Goenka did not give a clear-cut answer but rather explained that every franchise would want to bring in their best players but it is not as simple as buying the best players for big money. The fact of the matter is that there is no confirmation that Rohit would not be retained by the franchise, nor that he wants to leave MI.

In response to the rumours, Goenka responded, “You tell me first whether you or anyone else knows whether Rohit Sharma is coming in the auction? No one does so this is all pointless. Whether Mumbai Indians are going to release Rohit Sharma, whether Rohit Sharma is going to come in the auction and even if he does, spending 50 per cent of your purse on a player then what would we do for the other 22 players?”
“When it comes to a wishlist, you would want the best player and best captain. It is not just about wanting, it’s about what you have and what you can do with that,” he added
The franchise owner also highlighted the importance of spending the purse amount wisely to get the best value for money and build a squad that can compete on all fronts. LSG fell below their expected standards. Last season, the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their three-year history in the IPL.

With reports circulating that the skipper KL Rahul might want to relieve himself from leadership duties to focus more on his batting, it is yet to be seen whether the franchise would opt for someone new to lead the team. With the mega-auctions coming up, the franchises will be eagerly awaiting to see the retention policies in order to take their next step forward.
Yesterday, the franchise officially announced that the former Indian fast-bowler, Zaheer Khan would be part of the franchise as their new mentor as they embark on a new chapter since the departure of Gautam Gambhir. With a new man at the helm, the franchise hopes to make a fresh start as they aim to rebuild their squad during the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
