The right-arm pacer played six matches in IPL 2024 picking up 13 wickets at an economy of 7.68 for CSK, and reigned as their second-best bowler of the season so far, right behind Mustafizur Rahman, who claimed 14 wickets.
Not only for CSK, but Pathirana’s excellence has made him the joint-fifth-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing season of the IPL still.
His loss proved to be a big one for the defending champions as they suffered a defeat at home against Punjab Kings in their previous meeting.
Pathirana’s absence adds more salt to a wounded CSK bowling attack, which has already lost Deepak Chahar to another injury that may sideline him for the rest of the season, and the departure of Mustafizur Rahman as well, who has flown back to Bangladesh to tend to national duties.
As the teams near the tail-end of the season, the race for the playoff spots gets more heated by the day, with CSK trailing the fourth spot occupied by SRH by 2 points, and will be looking to end their campaign on a winning spree in order to secure qualification.
