'Bach Gaya Tha Na?': Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal's Moments of Confusion Between the Wickets Against Bangladesh
Jaiswal and Pant negotiated well with the Bangladesh bowling attack after the fall of early wickets, but the pair had their moments of confusion between the wickets, which fortunately did not prove costly.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant made a 62-run stand to settle the innings on the opening day of the Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday to bail the home side out of a tricky situation after the Indians were reeling at 34 for the loss of three wickets early in the innings.

Jaiswal and Pant negotiated well with the Bangladesh bowling attack after the fall of early wickets, but the pair had their moments of confusion between the wickets, which fortunately did not prove costly.

Pant and Jaiswal seemed to be in a fix as the former called for a triple after having jogged for the first one to get off the mark, as Jaiswal had to put in a dive to secure his crease as Pant misjudged the ball running away for a boundary.  Jaiswal, who seemed shocked by the near-miss scenario said, “Slip ho gaya yaar (I slipped).”

A couple of deliveries later, Jaiswal had to produce yet another dive to reach the crease for a single as Pant enquired, “Bach gaya tha na? (Safe, yes)”.

Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik opined that, “Both Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t know what to do. They were shocked.”

However, the pair survived the scare and went on to solidify the Indian innings following a horrendous start to the opening game of the series.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was scalped by Hasan Mahmud for just 6 runs. Shubman Gill walked back to the hut without scoring a single runs as Mahmud doubled his tally, before also claiming the prized scalp of Virat Kohli for 6 runs.

Pant and Jaiswal arrested the slide on the seemingly seamer-friendly Chennai pitch, before Pant was dismissed by Mahmud for 39 runs.

Jaiswal went on to complete his half-century before Nahid Rana sent the southpaws back to the dugout, while KL Rahul added 16 runs before being sent back by Hasan Miraz.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin came up with timely knocks of fifty-plus runs each to help India put up a triple-digit partnership.
