'A Break Could do Wonders': Ex-Australian Skipper Suggests Rohit Sharma Might be 'Fatigued' Ahead of T20 World Cup
Considering Rohit Sharma's decline in form with the bat in IPL 2024, Michael Clarke has suggested that the Indian skipper could be fatigued and a break might be just what's needed to revitalise his form with the bat.

With the T20 World Cup around the corner, the form of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been a concern, with the opening batter for Mumbai Indians having in poor form with the bat through the middle stages of the Indian Premier League 2024.

But the former Australian skipper, Michael Clarke suggested that the skipper could be fatigued and a break away from cricket might be the thing he needs to find his touch ahead of the marquee tournament.

Despite having a good start to the tournament, his form with the bat has declined considerably with as many as four single-digit scores in the past five games in IPL 2024 for MI. Rohit has also been part of the Indian squad for the recently concluded five-match test series against England followed by the ongoing edition of the IPL.

Speaking with Star Sports, Clarke suggested that the star opening batter could be ‘fatigued’ which might be the reason for his decline in performances with the bat.

“Rohit, being the wise judge of his own performances, will undoubtedly be disappointed, especially considering his strong start. In my view, he might be feeling a bit fatigued as well,” said the former Aussie skipper.

“A break to freshen up could do wonders for him, but as the Indian captain and a key player for Mumbai Indians, you’re not getting a break. He’s going to have to find form,” Clarke added.

There were some injury concerns with Rohit Sharma as he was used as an impact substitute in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The MI leg-spinner, Piyush Chawla had revealed that he had a mild stiffness on his back which led to him being benched. But he was able to get back on the field and play the entirety of the recently concluded game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Clarke reckons that it is only a matter of time until the Indian skipper gets back to form and suggests that he go back to doing what he does best, which is timing the ball rather than forcing his shots.

“With someone like Rohit, it’s only a matter of time before he finds his form again. Hopefully, he stresses less and focuses on his game because he’s too talented to keep missing out. He’s at his best when he’s timing the ball, rather than trying to force it,” he concluded.
