Priority Would Be To Bring Down Air Ticket Prices For Common Man: Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu says his whole intention is to make sure that air travel is accessible to the common man by bringing down the airfares.

Flight Ticket Price To Come Down Soon? Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday said there is a need to bring down the airfares and his tenure will focus on making the air travel affordable for the common man. The market scenarios, especially external factors, COVID-19 and other factors led to an increase in the flight ticket prices recently.

Speaking to reporters, Naidu, who is a Telugu Desam Party MP, said, “My whole intention is to make sure that air travel is accessible to the common man. To make this a reality, the prices have to be affordable. My priority would be to bring down the prices (airfares).”

Reiterating PM Modi’s vision of ‘hawai chappal se hawai jahaz tak‘, he said that to make it a reality, the ticket prices have to be affordable.

This is Ram Mohan Naidu’s first comment after taking charge as India’s civil aviation minister.

Ram Mohan Naidu was sworn in as a Cabinet minister in the new Modi Government on June 9.

On aviation infrastructure development in the country, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said, “We want India to be No.1 in that (aviation infrastructure). Under the leadership of PM Modi, we will give civil aviation the top-most priority and a big push. Being the youngest member of the Cabinet, I have been given this responsibility, and I have a lot to prove here. I want to stand up for that challenge.”

India is the world’s fastest-growing aviation market.

In February, a parliamentary committee also proposed that the government should frame guidelines to control sudden surges in airfares, adding that “a route-specific fare ceiling can be examined”.

Airlines say fares are driven by supply and demand.

India’s two biggest airlines — IndiGo, which has a roughly 60 per cent market share and Tata Group airlines, which accounts for about 30 per cent — have hundreds of new planes on order, and the government is adding more airports to cater to growing demand.

In 2023, domestic air traffic in India surged by 23 per cent to reach a record 153 million passengers, according to government statistics. Analysts anticipate this figure to reach 300 million passengers by 2030, underscoring the robust growth trajectory of the aviation sector in the country.
