Maruti to hike prices by Rs 12,000
Maruti Udyog announced a price hike of upto Rs 12,000 with effect from next month.

New Delhi: Country's largest car manufacturer Maruti Udyog announced on Monday a price hike of upto Rs 12,000 with effect from next month.

"We have informed all our dealers about the planned price hike to be effective from Feb 1, Maruti Udyog's CEO and MD Jagdish Khattar said.

The price hike will be across most models, he said, without disclosing any details.

The price hike comes after Maruti launched diesel version of its popular model Swift in Kochi on Thursday.

Launching the diesel car, Sasank Srivastava, Commercial Business Head, South, MUL, said there was a growing demand for diesel cars in India. MUL had made major investments in diesel facilities to cater to the demand, he said.

Unlike the conventional diesel engines, the engine of the Swift Diesel is silent, while offering superior fuel efficiency, he said. He claimed that the compactness of the engine leads to superior performance and better fuel economy.
