ICAI to question two ex-PW auditors in Satyam case
The two auditors are now in jail for their alleged involvement in the scam.

New Delhi: Accounting regulator Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Friday said it will question two former Price Waterhouse auditors S Gopalakrishnan and Talluri Srinivas on Sunday, who are now in jail for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore Satyam financial fraud case.

"We have got the permission from the court three-four days back and we are going to question the auditors on April 5," ICAI President Uttam Prakash Agarwal said.

ICAI will question the auditors on accounting and auditing practices and try to find out whether they had followed the right methods of accounting, Agarwal said.

The two auditors, who were sacked by the international auditing firm Price Waterhouse-Bangalore, were involved in auditing the accounts of the scam-tainted Satyam Computer Services. They were later arrested by the police.

ICAI, Aggarwal added, had already obtained permission from a local court in Hyderabad to question the two auditors and record their statements.

Institute's counsel G Gopalakrishna Murthy had urged the local court, hearing the Saytam case, to allow the ICAI to question the two auditors on their role in the Satyam fraud case.

As per the Chartered Accountants Act, ICAI can regulate the profession of chartered accountants and also take disciplinary action against erring auditors.
