New Delhi: More than 4,000 casual workers at the Hero Honda factory in Gurgaon have gone on strike demanding regularisation of services. The production at the facility was hit at a loss of about 12,000 units.

"We are demanding regularisation of services of the contract workers who have been working for the company for the last 5-10 years on the basis of seniority," leader of the contract workers union Devender Pradhan said.

Other demands of the workers include benefits such as compensatory off, medical facilities, salary accounts in banks, and ATM facility.

The workers were demanding regularisation of services of 1,000 contract workers right away, followed by 100 workers every month.

They also demanded that junior contract workers be treated as casual workers, which entitles them for some benefits. "We have been on strike since yesterday afternoon and there is no production going on right now. We produce about 6,500 vehicles a day at the plant," Pradhan said, adding that they would continue the protest till their demands were met.

Company officials were not immediately available for comments.
