Air Deccan to open base in Ahmedabad
Establishing the base in Ahmedabad, the airline would provide more job opportunities in the city.

Bangalore: Low cost carrier Air Deccan will have its second base in the Western Sector in Ahmedabad locating a brand new Airbus 320 and connecting the city to major destinations.

Beginning November 2, Air Deccan would operate flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Goa. Currently, it operates flights only to Hyderabad from Ahmedabad.

The Ahmedabad base would be the maiden base in Gujarat for any airliner. The base would be the eighth for Air Deccan, whose other bases are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Trivandrum.

An airline base usually consists of aircraft being deployed at the station with all the engineering and operational support for the airlines, including engineering and maintenance staff, pilots, cabin crews among others.

Establishing the base in Ahmedabad, the airline would provide more job opportunities in the city and also become a hub for its scheduled flights, Air Deccan said in a release on Friday.

The booking opens on September 2 for flights from the city.

Chief Operating Officer of the Airliner Warwick Brady said, ''In view of the congestion apparent at many main airports, the ownership of slots at certain airports would prove to be a significant tradable asset. Our base at Ahmedabad would also stand as a back up to our Mumbai base where the air traffic congestion is one of the highest''.
