Rohit Shetty recently shared insights about his parents, action director MB Shetty and stuntwoman Ratna Shetty, who often faced injuries on film sets when they began their careers in Hindi cinema. The filmmaker, currently riding high on the success of his web series ‘Indian Police Force,’ opened up about the time when his mom served as Hema Malini’s body double in the 1972 film ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’.
During an interview with ANI, Rohit Shetty stated that ‘breaking bones’ is his ‘family business’. “My mom was a stuntwoman. She did Seeta Aur Geeta. The Hema Malini you see on the fan is actually my mom,” recalled Shetty, and also added that she even played a body double to veteran star Vyjanthimala. “The Vyjanthimala rolling down the staircase—it’s her; her physique was such.”
Speaking of his father, he shared, “He directed the action sequences in Deewar, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Great Gambler, Don, An Evening in Paris, and Trishul. He invented the glass break. He got lots of cuts. He used to come home with blood stains and stitches.”
The filmmaker, who is known for his car stunts, says that all these high-octane action sequences are the outcome of his parents’ action stunts. “That’s why I am like this. It is a family business that breaks bones. It is in our DNA to break our own bones,” he said.
Rohit Shetty has recently made his digital debut with the Prime Video series Indian Police Force, starring Shilpa Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Siddharth Malhotra. He is back to directing his next film, Singham Again, which brings Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar together on screen for the first time.
Coming back to the Indian Police Force, the show also marks Rohit Shetty’s web-directed debut. It stars Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles.
